Design of a 3D imaging system for psoriasis assesment

Currently, medical professionals rely on qualitative and subjective methods to assess the severity of psoriasis in patients. In this thesis, a 3D stereo camera imaging system that can be used for a more quantitative assessment of psoriasis severity is designed and implemented. The imaging system additionally includes an optical projector for pattern projection that is used to increase texture in the images and provide robustness to specular reflection.

The results of this thesis are intended to be used as a stepping stone to designing an imaging system for at-home use by patients in future work. With this in mind, care was taken to use techniques that would be suitable for patients to use in an at-home environment. Initial experiments to validate the system have shown promising results.
