3D Stereovision for quantification of skin diseases

Finished: 2020-11-20

MSc assignment

The objective of this assignment is to develop methods for the quantification of skin diseases, such as Psoriasis and burn wounds. This is important for the phycisian to monitor the progress and healing of the disease, and to observe the effects of medication. Wounds have a variety of aspects that can be measured: blood perfusion, redness, flakes, area, shape. However, this assignment is about the measuring of the 3D relief of the diseased site.

The assignment consists of the following parts:

  1. Finding the geometrical and optical requirements for a stereo camera setup for stereophotogrammetry. For this, a Matlab simulation tool is available.
  2. If 1. provides promising and feasible results , this system will be built. If 1. indicates that a feasible stereo camera setup for this problem does not exist, then go to 4.
  3. Conducting experiments to find projection patterns and projection methods that work well on skin and with the given stereo camera setup.
  4. if the stereophotogrammetry turned out not to be feasible, initialize pilot experiments with 3D photometric stereo as an alterantive, and try to work this out.
