This work focuses on studying the 2D wake pattern behind a bluff body immersed in a fluid. Within a specific Reynolds number range, a repeating pattern of swirling vortices shows up: the Von Karman vortex street.
Since the Vortex Induced Vibrations can cause the structure collapsing, a suitable control technique has to be adopted. This can lead to the possibility of designing a mechanism to produce the Reverse Von Karman Vortex Street: a thrust-generating wake created by the birds flapping wings.
