MSc assignment

In certain applications it is desirable to have compact solutions that are able to drive multiple degrees of freedom. This could be realized by means of a multi-motor design that features concentric axes that can be independently driven.

Ongoing research involves stepper motors and pneumatically driven motors.

In this assignment a multi-axis brushless DC motor will be designed, implemented and evaluated. The main advantage of using a BLDC motor over the other options is the fact that BLDC motors are capable of delivering a high power density, i.e. high power output per unit volume of the motor. By combining this with the concentric multi-axis design a compact motor will be developed that is capable of driving multiple degrees of freedom independently.
