Multimodal Image Registration applied to Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Ultrasound Hepatic Images

MSc assignment

Keywords: Medical applications, image processing, and image registration

Project Description: Ultrasound is widely implemented in the diagnosis and treatment of hepatic lesions. In percutaneous procedures, physicians depend on ultrasound images to localize tumors. However, the spatial resolution of these images is low compared to MRI images. Therefore, the localization of certain anatomical structures in ultrasound images requires highly trained medical staff. An inaccurate localization in hepatic percutaneous procedures might lead to misdiagnosis, destruction of healthy tissues, and incomplete treatment. The objective of this project consists in performing registration of hepatic MRI images and ultrasound images.

The student should be interested in programming, and computer vision. Preferably student has taken the course in Image Processing and Computer Vision.
