Soft Robotic Sleeves for Colonoscopy

Colonoscopy is a critical procedure for the early detection and prevention of colorectal diseases, yet it remains associated with patient discomfort and procedural risks. Traditional colonoscopes can cause significant pain and complications due to friction and concentrated interaction forces against the colon wall. This project aims to develop soft robotic sleeves that enable near-frictionless navigation and more evenly distribute the normal load of the endoscope, ultimately enhancing patient safety and improving the overall effectiveness of the procedure.
