Many people in the Netherlands are suffering from heart and vascular disease. A fraction of those patients is suffering from a dysfunctional aortic valve, which is also called aortic valve insufficiency. Aortic valve insufficiency mostly accompanied by aortic regurgitation, this is the reverse flow of blood from the aorta to the left ventricle. This can be measured with the use of MRI by at least two methods, the drawing in of the ventricles and the 2D flow method.
The problem is that both methods give different results and it is not known which is the better method. To determine the better MRI method a literature review has been done. First, the relevant theory of the heart and MRI are described. Furthermore, multiple MRI artefacts are described, with an addition of specific artefacts for both methods.
At last, both the methods are described in detail and the advantages and disadvantages are indicated.
