2D and 3D Reconstruction of in-vivo bladder

The NextGenInVivo project has as goal to develop a prototype OCT catheter system that could be used in endoscopic surgery (e.g., cystoscopy). Images taken during a cystoscopy can mentally be hard to position inside the bladder due to the twisting of the cystoscope. To compare images of successive cystoscopic surgeries, urologists draw the references by hand on schematic pictures of a bladder. To aid urologists, a solution being explored is to reconstruct a 3D visualization of the bladder using the captured images. During earlier work, a 3D reconstruction of a cardboard bladder phantom was created.

During this project, research was conducted to examine keypoint detection and matching of in-vivo bladder images. This was done by comparing multiple algorithms and their parameters, increase of the image contrast and the influence in keypoint matching when frames in the video are skipped.
