Lymphedema is a condition of localized fluid buildup and tissue swelling ca= used by a damaged lymphatic system. Therapy consists of manually lymph drai= nage, compression therapy or bandaging. However, this therapy is still insu= fficiently substantiated in the neck area, because there is no highly relia= ble instrument to measure the degree of change in the neck volume. A freque= ntly used method is by using a measuring tape to acquire the circumference = of the neck, or bioimpedance to measure the amount of fluid in the neck.
For this assignment the goal is to replace the current methods of measuring= by 3d reconstructing the neck using a Kinect as depth sensor. This will r= esult in a 3d model of the neck which can be used to measure the circumfere= nce of the neck more accurately. When using two different 3d models at diff= erent times the amount of change can also be detected and measured, this is= to give the doctor a better indication of the progress.
