Design of a nonlinear stiffness mechanism with prescribed behaviour using a variable cam pulley

BSc assignment

A nonlinear stiffness mechanism is designed and built.

Combining a torsion spring and variable cam pulley forms the nonlinear stiffness mechanism. The geometry of the cam is varied to fit specific prescribed force-deflection curves. A new way of generating the corresponding cams is evaluated.

Due to the nature of the mechanism, it is expected to be compact and low friction.
